Prevention

How is their correct prevention dose measured?
We weigh your puppy around once a month on our scale to make sure prevention doses stay accurate as they grow.

Why does my puppy’s weight matter for prevention?
Prevention medications are dosed by weight, so accurate weighing helps avoid underdosing or overdosing.

When is my puppy done growing?
Most puppies finish growing around 6 months of age, though larger breeds may take longer.

Can my puppy get more than one prevention dose at a time?
Once your puppy is done growing, they may qualify for multi-dose options depending on their weight range and the specific product.

Vaccines

Do breeder vaccines count?
Yes, breeder-administered vaccines do count, but most breeders only give the first DAP. Your puppy still needs the remaining boosters with us to complete the series.

Why do vaccines need to be given by a vet?
Veterinarians ensure proper timing, documentation, handling, and storage. Vaccines given outside a clinic do not qualify toward the official series.

Are store-bought vaccines safe?
No. Department store vaccines are unreliable and may not protect your puppy.

When should my puppy get vaccines?
Puppies typically receive boosters every 3–4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. Explore a more detailed schedule in our Vaccines booklet.

Socialization

When can my puppy start socializing?
Your puppy can begin safe socialization after two DAP vaccines and Bordetella.

Can my puppy go to dog parks?
Not until they’re fully vaccinated. Dog parks carry a high risk of disease exposure.

Is it safe to socialize with other dogs?
Only with dogs you know are vaccinated, healthy, and safe around puppies.

Why is early socialization important?
It helps your puppy grow into a confident, well-adjusted adult and reduces fear-based behavior issues.

Potty Training

How do I start potty training my puppy?
Take them to the same outdoor spot each time and keep them on a leash so they stay focused.

Why does my puppy go inside right after being outside?
Puppies get distracted easily and may not finish outdoors unless kept focused on leash.

Should I let my puppy off-leash to potty?
Leash walking helps them concentrate. Once you’re sure they’ve gone completely, you can let them off-leash to play.

How long does potty training take?
Every puppy is different, but most need consistent training for several weeks to months.

Spay/Neuter Timing

When should my puppy be spayed or neutered?
Many puppies are spayed or neutered around 6 months old, but ideal timing varies by breed, size, and behavior.

Why do large breed dogs sometimes wait longer?
Large breeds rely more on hormones for joint and growth plate development, so waiting can help reduce orthopedic risks.

Does behavior affect spay/neuter timing?
Yes. Behaviors like marking, roaming, or mounting can influence whether earlier surgery is recommended.

Is early spay/neuter safe?
It depends on breed and size. Your veterinarian will help determine the safest timing.

Insurance

When should I get pet insurance for my puppy?
Right after their first exam. Any issue noted before insurance begins is considered pre-existing and won’t be covered.

What is a pre-existing condition?
Any sign, symptom, or diagnosis that occurs before the policy start date.

Is pet insurance worth it for a puppy?
Yes. Puppies often appear healthy, but insurance becomes extremely valuable as they age or if emergencies happen.

Which pet insurance should I choose?
In order to make an informed decision, we reccommend using Pawlicy Advisor, a pet insurance marketplace that lets you compare multiple plans to find the best fit for your budget and coverage needs.

Doggy Daycare

When can my puppy start daycare?
Most daycares require your puppy to be fully vaccinated and spayed/neutered before a socialization or temperament test.

Is daycare good for socializing my puppy?
Yes. Daycare can help puppies learn play manners and build confidence in a structured setting.

How old does my puppy need to be?
Age requirements vary by facility, but usually after completing the full vaccine series.

Training

When should I start training my puppy?
Training can start right away. The earlier consistent training begins, the easier long-term behavior becomes.

Does my puppy have to be fully vaccinated to start training?
Some trainers allow earlier sessions, but we recommend waiting until your puppy is fully vaccinated for safety.

Is a certain type of training better than others?
We reccommend one-on-one training over board and train because it strengthens communication and bonding with your puppy.

Can training wait until my puppy is older?
It can. While earlier training is preferred, you can still teach an old dog new tricks ;)
