Starting at one year of age and continuing until age eight, we recommend annual wellness visits for all pets. Our doctors perform complete physical exams at these visits with an emphasis on early recognition of disease. Many diseases, when diagnosed early, can either be cured or managed with long-term therapies. Vaccinations are also given at these examinations if the pet's health is considered normal.
After the age of eight and for pets with chronic illnesses, we recommend wellness exams every six months. Some long-term medications require specific blood level tests every six-to-12 months, thus we may re-check blood profiles at this visit to see if medications have affected organ function. If damage is found early, it can often can be slowed or even reversed.
Senior pets often have special needs as well that will be addressed during wellness visits. We are always happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about your old friend.
