Do not use a human
shampoo on your dogs and cats. Your pet's skin is much different than that of
your own skin. Shampooing your pet is not harmful to their skin but using the
wrong shampoo can be harmful. Placing cotton balls in their ears keeps water
and the shampoo from entering the ear canal and causing an ear infection.
Also using an ophthalmic ointment in your pets eyes will prevent irritation and
shampoo and water from getting into your pet's eyes.
Eight easy tips on bathing your pet:
Using lukewarm water rinse your pet (handheld
showerheads are helpful).
Apply a sufficient amount of shampoo to the top of the
neck and along the back.
The face and ears should be washed with a soapy
washcloth to avoid getting soap in the eyes or ears.
Work the shampoo into your pets hair adding more
lukewarm water if needed.
Rinse shampoo thoroughly until water runs clear.
Repeat
steps 2, 3, and 4.
Allow shampoo
to sit for 5-10 minutes.
Again, rinse the shampoo from your pet’s hair until the
water runs clear.
